Hopeful Sign

As someone who graduated from a fundamentalist university and who studies the history of American religion in the 19th and 20th centuries, this is a hopeful sign.

Sean,

Either I did not know or I had forgotten that you are an alumnus of Bob Jones University. My wife also graduated from there.

I did my MDiv at Central Seminary. Kevin Bauder came on the faculty in my last year there. I have kept an interested eye on Central since I left, and I was very pleased to hear that he had become its president. I enjoyed the few classes I had with him perhaps more than any others in my MDiv.

There are a lot of positive rumblings going in that sector of the Fundamentalist movement these days. Time will tell the result, but I agree that there is reason to be encouraged. I am told that one of the things that did the most to start the rumbling was this address. I thought the address was excellent; what I found surprising--in a good way is that quite a few Fundamentalists took it seriously.
