Theology and the inner life

From Rose Marie Miller, From Fear to Freedom: “Why are some many Christians still mastered emotionally by hesitancies about God, and why do they so often question his willingness and power to save hard cases? And why do so many Christians doubt that he loves them with all the deep caring described in Scripture? The answer is that good theology only helps when it controls the inner life.”

What does she mean, "inner life"? Sounds gnostic to me.

(That is my weak attempt at humor!)

We can never be reminded too often of our need to search out true knowledge of God and self.
