Designed for Worship
This is a very cool website, put together by Nashville Public Television, on church architecture in Nashville. I particularly liked (surprise) the Presbyterian churches. I wonder what it was like to hear James I. Vance, who was quite the orator as well as a theological progressive, at First (now Downtown) Presbyterian Church in that Egyptian Revival monstrosity. Likewise, I wonder what it would have been like to worship in that simple building at Hermitage with Andrew Jackson, who became a member there after he retired as president in 1837.
